If the training classes aren't working, and your dog has a very aggressive behaviour, then you need to give him to someone who can take care of him at all times, and give him as much attention as he needs which you cannot. Its hard to let a dog go, but sometimes its what needs to be done.
My friend got a dog from the pound who had been beaten, she was very aggressive, not with her owner, but toward other dogs, and eventually toward other people. Even though she was a loving dog, and a beautiful one, she just couldnt be trained, and she had to be put down.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, don't feel so bad that you're trying to give Christian a better home that can care for him, just be happy it hasnt gotten so bad that he has to lose his life.
Well the training classes ARE working in the sense that he now knows how to sit, stay, lay down, and all that good stuff, but I thought the exposure to other dogs would help him ease his aggression, which it hasn't.
You're right - Both he and I are lucky that he is extremely sweet with people, just doesn't like other dogs. I think he would do great with agility or therapy work, but the person to train him would have to be someone who either doesn't have other dogs or who is more experienced with Border Collies. They're pretty high-maintainence dogs, and though I do know a ridiculous amount about them, that doesn't mean I have the experience to own one.
I'm learning a lesson in this, too, I guess, but I'm gonna miss him :o/
