Was it kind of a date, maybe?
After school, I went down to the Riverwalk. It seemed like all my classes were so crowded and loud, and there was a song on the tip of my tongue that I could not figure out. It was really bugging me, and I was trying to sing it in my head.
*Dawn wanders slowly along the Riverwalk, shivering slightly with her hands in her pockets. She stops to look at a barge passing by, her expression dreamy*
::Kincaid is lost in thought as he walks along the Riverwalk. Not really knowing where's he's headed to. Not really caring.
::Sheltered in a sweater, he still shivers from the cold:: "Jesus it's freezing..."
::Having nothing else to do, he continues along the Riverwalk, thinking about what his life will end up like, without his mother and father::
*The sky is darkening, and Dawn looks nervously around and sees someone who looks familiar.*
Dawn: Um...Kincaid?
::Kincaid spins as he hears his name called. He sees Dawn's face shine in the moonlight:: "Dawn?"
Dawn: Hi, I thought that was you. *smiles*
Kincaid:: "Wow, uh, what are you doing? I mean, not that I mind... but..."
Dawn: I just, um, you know after school? I was kinda restless and decided to take a walk. I didn't think I'd been out here that long but it's already dark.
Kincaid:: places his hands in his pocket (sign of nervousness) "Yeah, it's gettin kinda late. Kinda forgot about time..."
Kincaid:: "I went for a walk... and ended up here... not exactly sure how. Just kinda took a road and followed it..."
Dawn: *places her forearms on the rail and looks out at the river* Yeah, I know. I do that too. And there's so many people at my place all the time. I guess I needed a break.
Kincaid:: "Yeah, I know what that's like."
Dawn: *looks over at Kincaid* School's been busy, huh? I haven't seen you.
Kincaid:: "Oh..." ::looks to the ground:: "Um, yeah... things are... well, hectic..."
Kincaid:: sees her shiver:: "You must be freezing."::takes his jacket off and places it around her shoulders::
Dawn: *looks concerned* That's so sweet, but you'll freeze now!
Kincaid:: "No it's cool. This is kinda like a sweater..."
Dawn: I dunno what I was thinking, coming out here without a jacket. I forget it's November.
Kincaid:: "Heh, yeah. I'm used to California's wacky weather forecast. It'll be mid January and it's the hottest day ever."
Dawn: Yeah. *laughs*
Kincaid:: "So, uh, what time you have to be back?"
Dawn: Well, I don't really have a curfew. Long as I'm home before it gets late. *shivers again*
Kincaid:: "You're freezing. We should get coffee...my treat." ::smiles at her::
Dawn: *flushes a bit* I'd like that. *tentatively wraps her fingers around his*
Kincaid:: takes her hand::
Dawn: *giggles* So, coffee. I like coffee. Sugar or no sugar? Ummm you know in the coffee.
So Kincaid and I went for coffee and talked. He's lost his mother, too, I found out, and his living situation is kinda strange. Yeah, like mine isn't. So that's another thing we have in common. He walked me all the way back to the warehouse, where we said goodnight.
I never did figure out what the song was, but by then it didn't seem to matter.
