I was going to go see Mary Bue tonight, but I discovered none of the busses near me run Saturday nights.  Normally, I would just walk (it's kind of a trek, but not bad), except I failed to plan my day in a logical fashion, meaning I already did that entire walk and then some, so my legs are tired from walking gingerly on snow and ice.

where in duluth are you living now (email/lj/fb me your address!)? very cool you can walk to work. i am having the same problem finding boots you are! well, not the exact same...but i can't seem to find boots that simultaneously warm, have traction, are waterproof, don't have a big heel, are nice enough to wear all day (at work or out) and are not too expensive!

Haha, your criteria sound almost tougher than mine. I'm afraid anything that is very warm will also be big and clunky--but maybe not. I've resigned myself to leaving my nice shoes at work so I can wear whatever on my way there, but I don't like having to allow for an extra five minutes to extract myself from 48975393 layers of warm clothing.

I've never heard of mickey mouse boots--those are crazy! Right now it's just Plain Ol Cold, but next time it snows I'll try wool socks with my sneakers and see how that works. I've also borrowed a pair of vintage canvas gaiters that I'll try with something.

I saw people surfing during that blizzard... but I didn't think I had my camera with me, so no pictures. Yours is great though.

I would love to do that--if I knew how to surf. I found it really difficult to get a picture that showed how big the waves really were, but I have a whole series of attempts that I'll upload to Facebook someday. (In the one above, both trees are really short, <10 ft., and you're looking down from the top of a small cliff, so the big wave is actually a long ways out.)

It was fun seeing you last week! Let's be sure to get together when you're here in June.
