graphical shenanigans

so ive decided to build myself a pc *gasp* so i can do my 3ds max work and make music etc. but gawd.... graphics cards are a nightmare. ive decided to get an AMD 2800 or 3000 processor and 512mb RAM... but the whole video card thing is tying me in knots. >_i just want something cheap but that does the job properly in 3ds max 6. so there's ATI and ( Read more... )

I am an ATI fan, but when The Sims 2 came out I was experiencing sticker shock.

A friend of mine was already using the Sapphire cards with ATI chips, so I asked him, and he said there were good.

I got one and it IS good. Well made card, easily recognized as an ATI card by the system.

And you can get refurbs from NewEgg.com...

For what it's worth, your ATI chipset needs to be RADEON 9500 or higher to support DirectX 9 in hardware.

Oh, and watch out for the SE models. They're usually crippleware with a narrower data path from memory to graphics chip. This is true no matter WHO makes it.
