An Inconvenient Truth

I went to watch an An Inconvenient Truth last night. For those of you who haven't heard about it yet it's the documentary type movie Al Gore made about global warming. and those are the optimistic point of view. If they get down to what they really think, the various governments (who profit from greenhouse-gas-produciong industries) get all het up and call them fearmongering pessimists.

Thing is, we're already close to the tipping point where the warming of the globe will increase at such a rapid pace that nothing we do to change it will change anything.

For example...ice and snow reflect the energy/warmth of the sun back out into space. For every square foot of reflective white snow/ice lost, there is instead a dark green/brown/blue square foot of heat absorbing dirt/water.

There are thousands of square miles of frozen peat marsh in Siberia that is thawing out. Not only does this mean more of the above, but also the marshland will now be free to release methane gas (a natural by-product of peat marshes) into the atmosphere, and since methane is a primary greenhouse gas...

well you get the picture.
