I have 50 to a hundred novels that I started when I was in high school/college, that never got past a few pages, some never got past a paragraph.
Then, one day, a story idea grabbed hold of me, and when I was finished I had something that was only a page and a half long. Even now, when I write something longer it is "only" a stringing together of short pieces.
If novels are what you enjoy writing, write them, and don't worry about what you "should" be writing.
