Draco still disguised to look like Lacey, hurried away from Sipps and out of Diagon Alley.  He apparated to his room at the Riddle House, before changing back into himself.  After a few slow breaths, he ( Read more... )

Lucius was in the Library inside Malfoy Manor when he heard the characteristic pop of a house elf apparating. As he had not summoned one, he could only assume there was something going on inside the Manor that needed his attention. When he looked up and saw an elf he did not recognize, his eyes narrowed slightly, and his hand quivered near his wand. Due to his run in with the elf he never referred to if he could help it, he had taken plenty of time to learn what house elves could, and could not do ( ... )

While Kreacher was away, Draco spoke reassuringly to Mrs. Parkinson and pulled his Death Eater robes over his regular clothes. When Kreacher returned his answer did nothing to set Draco at ease. He had to make a swift choice. The Dark Lord could come for Mrs. Parkinson any moment ( ... )

With a raised brow and a pop, the ancient elf left again to convey his message.

Lucius was already half way out the door of the library when Kreacher apparted back into Malfoy Manor. Lucius half turned, giving the elf a simple nod when he saw him to indicate the ancient house elf could speak. After Kreacher gave his report, Lucius paused to consider for only a moment.

"Very well, come along then. I was on my way to see the Dark Lord in any case, and having you along will not greatly hamper me."

With that, he made his way quickly to the rooms the Dark Lord was using as his quarters, assuming Kreacher was following, but not bothering to check. The fact that the ancient elf had trouble keeping up with the brisk pace Lucius was setting was of no consequence to the Malfoy patriarch.

When they reached the lavish chamber doors, Lucius reached out and knocked firmly, but with a polite rhythm that was particularly his own. He then waited patiently for a response.

Quick with adrenaline and with no other errands to run, Draco reached the cave before his father. He did not want to be back here, but he was in no position to argue. A few moments later, he heard the pop of apparition and raised his hand to shield his eyes from the sudden light. "Father?" he called softly, blinking to adjust his eyes.

If Lucius was surprised to find his son already there, he did not show it.

"Yes, my son. Now, there is no time for half truths and evasions. Do you have the real Mrs. Parkinson, and is she with you?"

Draco held out the large shivering rat that was clutched gently but firmly in his hands. It was identical to the first rat if slightly better nourished. Mrs. Parkinson looked up at Lucius hopefully and gave a slight nod.

Lucius opened the cage door, and dumped the fake Mrs. Parkinson unceremoniously on the floor of the cave. He then looked the real Mrs. Parkinson in the eyes.

"I can't explain everything, because there isn't time. Let me sum up by saying I intend for you to be a guest in my home until you are restored, and that I'm working very hard to protect your husband and daughter. In the mean time, I'll need you to go back into the cage for a few more minutes. It must appear as if I've just taken you from the prison from which my son rescued you."

He held out the cage to her, hoping she would get into it herself, and looked back at his son.

"Explanations will have to wait, my son. He will likely move quickly, now that this matter has been brought back to his awareness. I promise a full explanation in one hour, if I am still alive and healthy by then. If not, I have left instructions for you in my room at the Manor, that only you should be able to find."
