Hermione cut through the Weasley's kitchen and out into the garden.  She caught her breath as her eyes adjusted.  The little puffs of fog in the cold night ( Read more... )

"Hey Hermione," Ginny hoped that her expression, although hidden from the other two, clearly showed what a terrible lookout she though the other girl was. That didn't mean that she was going to tell her insane brother or the professor that Hermione was in on the whole thing if they didn't know... she would just guilt her friend later.

And the night had started out so well.

Mercedes whipped around and pointed her wand at the new voice for only a second before relaxing. "Oh, you scared me" she said putting her hand on her chest. "Miss... Hermione right?" she said half smiling.

Mercedes' lips were a definate shade of blue and her bottom lip did not stop shivering. MErcedes wanted nothing more than to go somewhere warm with Charlie like they had planned. She understood now why he wanted to leave. Everyone in the burrow seemed stubborn, and that many personalities at once seemed to compond a situation.

See Hermione brought tension and releaf to MErcedes. She hoped Hermione would be able to lighten the situation and get Ginny in the house without stiring the pot or causing another fight among the group.

"Is anything wrong?" Hermione asked, grateful that Ginny was in one piece and only looking annoyed.

Charlie narrowed his eyes suspiciously at Hermione. She had, after all, been on Malfoy's side last time, and there was no reason to think she wasn't involved this time. Her timing was just a little too convenient.

"Nothing but a visitor who had no business being here. We sent him away, thankfully, but if you could take Ginny back inside, it might be helpful, Granger," Charlie said, with no more warmth than the air around him.

Hermione shook her head as Mercedes ran off. It must have been very embarassing for Charlie to have his old girl friend show up while he was trying to introduce the new one to the family. Good! she thought savagely. "Charlie has no right to comment about other people's love lives." She was bristling a little bit about Mercedes' comment as well, but then the teacher probably didn't know how much time she spent with the Weasleys or how she'd come to regard them as family...or how much it stung to be spoken too so coldly by someone who was nearly a brother.

"Look, Ginny, I'm sorry," she said, frustrated with herself more than anyone. "But I wasn't expecting the invasion of Charlie's love life, and I lost track of everyone." Her cheeks were turning pink from embarassment and the cold. "Please, come in. I think the kitchen is empty for now...and your mother thinks you're upstairs."

"At least they aren't going to deliver me right into her hands," Ginny muttered. She shook her head, "Whatever, it's not our problem if people decided to be idiots. I want chocolate to make up for my bitter disappointment."

Ron had jammed his hands into his pockets for warmth, as his hunt for a coat in the front hall took far too long to even be worth it. He has obviously missed something, and at this point, he could care less. He could only take so much of this sort of thing. The Harry/Voldie thing was cheesecake compared to what was going on tonight.

He jogged the final yard or so to Hermione, keeping his mouth shut instead of asking what was going on. Hermione would fill him in either way later, and just standing close to her now visibly calmed him down.

Before he could stop himself, "If you don't mind... chocolate doesn't sound like a bad idea right about now." He tried a painful smile, due to the cold more than the situation... and yet he couldn't help feel that Ginny and himself hadn't been on the best terms lately. She was his sister, and as much as he would hate to admit it out loud... he missed her.

Hermione jumped slightly at the sound of Ron's voice...maybe she was the worst lookout ever...but relaxed when she saw his smile. She slipped her hand into his and lead both Weasleys back inside. With a few flicks and twirls of her wand, she had three cups of hot chocolate on the table.

She sunk into a chair and inhaled the scent, allowing it to relax her. "Sam's sleeping," she told Ginny, updating her on what had happened inside as best she could. "Apparently she and Charlie were in some kind of relationship." Philosophically, Hermione didn't like gossip, but it was hard sometimes to draw the line between gossip and information. And Ginny was her favorite person with whom to exchange information. "But it appears to have ended--badly."

Hermione pressed her lips together. People were scared, which meant they were prone to over reacting. She didn't miss Ron's sarcasm, and Charlie was less rational with his anger. Professor Andrews on the other hand had seemed fairly calm, more worried about Charlie than the unwanted visitor. "Yes...I suppose denial is the simplest thing. It should be pretty straight forward for me and Ron. We were there, so we won't have to lie. But you'll have the hardest time, Ginny. Do you think you could get through an interrogation? They might not want to believe it, but they'd still investigate and test you for signs of Imperius."

After giving Ron a scathing look, Ginny shrugged, "Got a better plan? If I had known that this was going to be this much work, I wouldn't have done it." Or maybe she would have. But Ron was looking too stressed for her to admit that. She finished off the last bit of her drink and continued, "Let's just hope that she decides to go to one of ours first. They can talk the Professor out of going any further."

"Yes, hopefully we won't have to worry about it. I'm just suggesting you might want to have a story figured out just in case." Hermione rolled her shoulders. "Ron and I will simply deny having seen anything, because we didn't see anything." She took a long sip of chocolate while her mind raced. "There's nothing more we can do until Charlie gets back. I wonder how Harry and Luna are faring. Ooh, what I wouldn't give to be in France right now."

Arthur could hear the whispering in the other room and smiled as he knew his children were up to no good. He had just hoped it was about recent events and not Order related subjects.

Arthur tapped on the wall to make his entrance known, he did not want the kids thinking he was spying.

"Sorry for interupting. Just wanted to grab a cup of water and a light snack."

Arthur cold tell from there rosey cheeks and noses that they had been outside. Perhaps consoling Charlie. The thought of his son leaving before Christmas weighed on him like a lump of coal in his stomache.
