Happy New Year!

Jan 08, 2012 00:53

1. What did you do in 2010 that you'd never done before?

Went to Burning Man with a theme camp. Went on a kayaking camping trip. Successfully went back packing with a lover (I was so nervous about this, you have no idea). Have officially worked at one job for more than two years.

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

Unfortunately not. Last year I wanted to make life choices just for myself, and not consider any one else in the process. I did the exact opposite. But now, now I feel I owe no one anything, no boyfriend, no company, not even my family, and I could chose to do whatever I want. And I can chose to do whatever I want. And I'm damn well going to.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?
Best friend's brother's girlfriend. I couldn't even hold her because I was sick :(

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No. My father underwent heart surgery, and came out great. And after three months of hard recovery, he's back to hiking 5-10 miles three times a week. I'm so happy.

5. What countries did you visit?
Sadly, no where new. Biggest trip was to Burning Man with the Bouncy Bouncy Club. Several camping trips throughout the year to the wilds of West Virginia. And exotic visits to NYC with Hannah as my tour guide.

6. What would you like to have in 2011 that you lacked in 2010?
More concrete desires.

7. What date from 2010 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
Probably just randomn, happy moments at Jason's house.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Realizing I am a loving and giving person. Go figure.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Not taking a braver path. I will get it done, however. Last year was a wonderful interlude. This next year is a crossroads.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
I got sick a lot. I used all my sick days actually being sick! I need to change up my diet for more fruit and veggies.

11. What was the best thing someone bought you?
My rental kayak.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

My Grandmother, for turning 97, being brave and selling her house of 30 years to move into an assisting leaving apartment. My father, for working the miserable way through recovery. My mother, for taking care of every one. My little brother, for scoring a great internship, turning grad school into something fun, and showing me all you need in life is optimism and the believe that "love is great".

(and now ex-boyfriend, for taking on the horrors of unemployment, networking, and winning)

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?
No one?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Food. I eat out way too much.

15. What did you get really, really, really excited about?

BURNING MAN.

16. What song will always remind you of 2010?

Adele, Rolling in the Deep.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

i. happier or sadder?
Little sadder at the moment, but I have a feeling it's going to go up from here.

ii. thinner or fatter?
Same as always. Right now mostly fatter after Florida Road Trip.

iii. richer or poorer?
Richer. Always richer.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Sleeping, cooking.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Internets. Reading comics.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

Spent it at the Pacific Palisades house with my family for the first time in four years.

22. Did you fall in love in 2010?

Yes. Yes I did.

23. How many one-night stands?
Zero. I'm apparently the serious relationship type. Surprise surprise.

24. What was your favorite TV program?
Doctor Who again :) The only series I bother to catch up with while it airs.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Extreme dislike perhaps.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

29. What did you want and not get?

A clear path forward in life.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?
Hmm... didn't see that many. I liked Adjustment Bureau.

31.What did you do on your birthday?

Birthday weekend involved going to an amazing restaurant and eating baked Alaska, and kayak touring for two days down the Potomac. It was wonderful.

Clear path in life. Building an R&D laser system that met ALL specs.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2010?
Gradually getting used to this adult life while still having fun.

My room mates. My friends.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Daniel Craig.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
Occupy!

37. Who did you miss?

Haha, Sam, mostly. There are too few friends you can just yack away to.

38. Who was the best new person you met?

Ariel, my Latin friend. She's a keeper. KEEP.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2010.
Don't settle. Ever.

40. Quote a song or lyric that sums up your year.

In my mind
In a future five years from now
I'm a hundred and twenty pounds
And I never get hungover

Because I
Will be the picture of discipline
Never minding what state I'm in
And I will be someone I admire

And it's funny how I imagined
That I would be that person now
But it does not seem to have happened
Maybe I've just forgotten how
To see
That I'm not exactly the person that I thought I'd be.
