man. i love how my roommate spent all weekend talking me out of studying, spent maybe 2 hrs in the library and managed to get all of her work done and have time to check her facebook, and then get a good 6 hours of sleep, only to come home from classes today and nap for 2 hours (she's still going strong though). i, on the other hand, spent ( Read more... )

DUDE. I hear you. Though, if it's any consolation, I spoke to an Ed major over the weekend and she said that, at least here, it's notoriously slack, and you can slide by getting an A, but if you want to actually get something out of it, you have to be very self-motivated. But I feel the same way when I'm up at 3 agonizing over a translation and my roommate, a sophomore, goes to sleep at 12 ON THE DOT every night. You're that much cooler for your pain though, ;).

it's a bit like that here too. the classes themselves are a joke (well, that's my opinion anyway lol) but the real work comes from volunteering and stuff. but even including her volunteer hours, i still spend a lot more hours than her out of the room with my class obligations.. and then theres all the sleepless nights i spend studying in which she luxuriously watches an episode of friends, talks for 2 hours on the phone with her boyfriend, reads her favorite book, and STILL goes to sleep before me.

i really don't mean to come off as bitter or anything lol. she's my favorite person in this whole city, and it's no one's fault but mine that i'm a masochist...

you are completely turning my point around on me when i don't think you understood it to begin with. abbey is not a slacker. she makes all As and B+s, was like #2 in her high school, and is very active in all of that extracurricular stuff. i was definitely not trying to rag on her studying habits. my point was that she doesnt NEED to study or do homework ever because her major is that easy! her hardest class is her elective that she took for fun and could drop anytime. anyway, i think her and i are pretty much on an equal level when it comes to motivation/drive/intelligence, and there's just no denying that i have to work 10x as hard as she does for my major. she would even tell you herself that the only thing she doesnt like about being an education major is that she isn't challenging herself.
