I'm not sure where it is or what it's called but there is a basilica on a hill overlooking St Peters (?) Cathedral. The basilica on the hill lines up it's peek holes exactly with the top of the cathedral... apparently it's a very cool thing to see. One of the guys at work was "kidnapped" and taken there by a cabbie in Rome when the cabbie found out they were tourists there.
From Roma Termini (the main train station) go out the front door and walk straight ahead to the first street. Turn right, and go 3 or 4 blocks. There's a small parkette set amongst the old buildings, with a tiny shack on one end. The tiny shack is a gelatto stand with the world's greatest gelatto, served by friendly old men who speak a tiny bit of english.
If it's not there, turn left and go one more street. It's easy to see on the tourist maps they give away at the train station, so it shouldn't be too hard to find. Oh, yeah, and don't try to swim in the trebbi fountain ($500 fine and a night in jail--trust my dumb *former* friends on this).

Go to the Circus Maximus and also have lunch at a bistro.
