So the weekend was well spent and I managed to not get any sunburn (or tan, which is my nemesis). Julie and Jim's house is massive. There were four bedrooms that were probably larger than most of the rooms in my house. The best part was a small cemetery to the right of their driveway. Most of the stones were around the 1830-1860's. I have ( Read more... )

That beach looks ridiculous, waaay too many people. A shark would have a field day there.

Exactly my sentiments. I don't swim. Ever. I'm horribly afraid of water. Especially because the sharks in the area include hammerheads and mako. They're extremely aggressive.

Oh there actually are sharks there? I wasn't being serious, but okay. I'm sure they wouldn't pick on humans all that much, unless they are desperate for a feed.

I'm more afraid of jelly fish.

Yeah there are. Not too many attacks, but at least three or four a summer. Florida is the world capital of shark attacks, which is a fun fact for you. Usless knowlegde, oh, lovely. Usually they attack humans accidentally. Except last month or so someone was killed. Then a couple of weeks later a girl was attacked. Nothing you can do. Humans aren't meant for water, sharks are. We impose too much on the habitats of other animals.

By far the most exciting shark thing I know is from Matawan, New Jersey, where either a white, bull, or tiger shark attacked and killed five people in the span of just over a week. It even swam up Matawan Creek, which was at least brackish, if not fresh water, and killed someone.

What can I say, things as such fascinate me.

I'm so jealous you went to Assateague. It's one of the things I want to see at some point.

It's soooo gorgeous. Make sure you don't go right after the pony run or you won't see many horses. And bring bug spray. The mosquitos are nasty, as are the horse flies. On a calm day, the water is exceptionally clear for the NJ/DE/MD area.
