So mom, in her usual wonderful way of sharing news, called me at work yesterday (Friday) to tell me she'd had our dog put to sleep. Lily had gotten sick pretty quick, and it deteriorated fast in the last two weeks. We discussed it, but I didn't think she'd do it without my brother and I knowing/saying goodbye. Sorry about your dog....sucks of your mom to not at least let you say goodbye to her. I am sure she knows how much you loved her.

Yikes, you are the second friend in as many weeks whose mom heartlessly had her dog put down without giving her a chance to say goodbye!! What the hell is with up with THAT?!

IMO, you totally needed to say goodbye, because even if Lily hadn't known, you would have...when my dog Sheba died and I wasn't there, for years afterwards I had dreams where I discovered her still alive (one time living underneath the seat of my dad's truck) because I never got that closure.

I was there when I had my cat put to sleep, held her while they put the medicine in her, watched her take her last breath and I still have dreams about her being alive to this day. Haunting dreams....so I feel your pain.
