Don't know about you, guys, but I often am at a loss as to what to write in my journal... not that there's nothing to write about, but I do get concerned about privacy issues and what not... there are some people whom I'd like to read my journal (and they don't have an lj of their own, so making my journal "friends only" is not an option I'm ( Read more... )

Huzzah! You're writing in English! I can actually read some entries now ;). Maybe I should try to read in Russian. Not like that's going to go very far. Schulich sounds interesting so far, I can't believe that you don't get to pick classes though! That's a bit odd, I hope U of T lets students pick...

I'm not sure if you could pick classes at U of T... I'm pretty sure that you can pick classes at York for undergraduate (a friend of mine gets to pick hers)...

It must be just the graduate program, or at least the MBA program... besides, it's only for the first semester, and there's also a benefit to this, 'cause I wasn't exactly sure what to take and when... and I kind of like my schedule...

Hey :)

did you know that we have the same name, and our b-days are pretty close together ;) funny...

I'm not sure about the Schulich frosh week (yet), ask me in a couple of weeks). Based on what I saw for undergraduates - it sounds like fun... based on what I saw for mbas - it's mandatory.

Generally, I would recommend going to it... you do get to meet others, find out about what's available on campus - i.e. services, clubs, etc. And, if you don't like it, you could always just take off pretty much at any time. I went to my frosh week during my undergraduate career :)

On a side note, I saw your post about missing your old friends and your old life... and really, it will pass... it takes some people longer than others, but it'll pass, and no matter how sad it is to realize it, you'll grow apart with your old friends and won't have as much in common with them anymore (though I hope it doesn't work like this for you)... took me about 4-5 years (and I was 13 when I left)...

nice to meet you ;) ens_reale August 22 2003, 15:19:09 UTC
heh, u know, it's pretty tough for me, because i left ukraine at the age of 18. I've studied in a university for a year, i had my goals outlined for myself, i had some plans for my future career and so on. And then I was forced to move, that was so spontaneous for me. I had my friends, whom i could trust, i was the best student, I spent years on gaining authority over my friend, professors at my university and so on. I was strong, ambitious personality in Ukraine and I'm _nobody_ here! Yeah, I know that i have to start everything right from the beginning, it was so difficult for me to enter Schulich, but i finally did. That was just my first step. But I believe that even a hundred-mile journey begins with a centimeter-long step. But i have nobody here to turn to, no friends to talk to, even. That makes me go crazy ( ... )

well, immigration's always tough... doesn't matter if you're 13 or 23 (as was the case with my 2 immigrations). And trust me, it'll be much, much easier for you to start your life here from university at 18 as opposed to even at 22 (after university). You'll have Canadian education, you obviously have very good English, so you will not have any problems finding a job (well, no more problems than a regular Canadian student, and trust me, those'll be enough for ya ( ... )
