Richard is LOL

I trust I don't sound too elitist when I desire more from my online interactions than "James has thrown a bomb at you! Install 'Pirates' to throw one back!" - and other such meaningless claptrap.

Not at all - completely irritating and pointless. Facebook is however good for the party/event invites and virtual flyers. And for playing Scrabble. That's about all though.

+/- 50 seconds a week may be the efficient expenditure on it, however from my few months of experience of it you're lucky to only spend that in an average 15 minute period.

I agree. It's way more meaningful.

Incidentally, I'm in NZ in a couple of weeks beginning 15 Dec, mostly in Hawkes but likely to be spending some time in Auckland. Would be great to meet up.

its wierd, im such a sucker to lj and myspace, hating myself for being so, but powerless to do much about it. facebook on the other hand, just doesnt do it for me. i have one but barely check it and/or reply to any comments or messages i recieve. kind of happy to keep it that way really. like a social smoker i guess

One's only got so much bandwidth for these distractions. If it's an integral part of knowing what all your friends are doing, then that's fine: a case can be made for its efficiency.

If, on the other hand, your list comprises mainly of people you see at weekends or otherwise aren't generally interacting with, then it's little more than an events board.
