I am flying with American Airlines to Texas in december. I have one stop in Dallas Fort Worth but only 1 hour to check out and back in. I think I'll NEVER do this with luggage. On the way back I only have 40 min. This is insane

I could be wrong, but I think when you have a layaway you don't get your luggage, they automatically change planes with it.

I think you're correct, I know in domestic flights you do not touch your luggage when transferring (but of course you have to transfer your carry-on luggage). The only issue you might have is being an international flight you might have to go through customs which would be impossible in an hour.
