I transcribe (type) notes that doctors dictate, in my case into a phone line, but some still use hand-held recorders that use cassette tapes. What they dictate is uploaded to a server and I download it to my hard drive. I have a footpedal attached to my computer (like you would a gaming controller) that controls playing back the voice file and type the document into a Word-based program (it's actually a little more complicated than that, but that's the easiest way to explain it!) When I'm finished typing the file, I upload it to the client's server. That's it in a nutshell! I've been working as a subcontractor for the better part of 12 years, so my contractor provides the work and deals with the clients (and provides the paycheck). I've been working for the last 2 years for a company based in California and my client has been the orthopaedics clinic at Stanford University. I kind of specialize in orthopaedics.

Welcome, fellow living-close-to-Dallas person ;-)

I'm in Frisco... which is north of Dallas.

We have friends in Frisco, and I've accidentally ended up in that city...before hubby got me a GPS! lol :)

My mom has been a MT for 23 years. I'm an RN and she knows about as much as I do medically...and more about drugs!

Welcome! (I'm a June 07 bride, too.)

I've been an MT for about 12 years, burned out for about 3-4, so I'm thinking about getting into something different, though I'm not quite sure what yet. I'd like to try closed captioning, but I'm having a hard time getting my foot in the door.

Yeah...some people think any monkey can sit and type, but it's our butts if a doctor doesn't say what he means and we don't correct him!

It's lovely! :) Especially since I used to get migraines and didn't believe chiropractic could help..lol I still get one occasionally, and it may take an adjustment in the morning and then one in the afternoon to take care of it, but no more 3-day headaches, and they never get to the point they take me down for a day...and no more $100-a-dose Imitrex. I rarely even have to take an Advil. Yes, I'm a walking advertisement...lol
