What's in a name?

I've long believed in the idea that one god is the center religion of over half the religions of the world if you consider population. However, the concept that 'the god' of muslims, Christians, and Jews (... and latter day saints, and Ba'hai faith, ...) is the same god is not exactly clear to everyone that I've discussed this with. Interesting link you provided. Haven't read it thoroughly but I've skimmed through. (So I might have missed some points)

From what I remember in my Philosophy and Theology classes, Islam and Christianity/Catholicism stemmed from Judaism(And I do remember my Philo prof mentioning about God being called YHWH). It could be that there had been some difference in translation/interpretation as these two 'religions' went apart from each other. Something similar to the Muslims believing that Jesus is a prophet(from what I've heard) but to Christians, he is the 'son of God', therefore occupying a very divine position. I'm not sure though. I haven't read any verse Q'uran and I haven't opened the bible in a long time.

I did a little more research and it appears that the Arabic "Allah" more closely translates into english as ZEUS or Jupiter than to 'LORD' (the english representation of the name of the Jewish god. The word Allah existed in times before Islam in Arabia, when they had a pantheon of gods similar to Greek, Roman, Egyptian, and Indian.

I'm looking into this topic from this point of view..) If you study the religion of Islam at all, it makes more sense that the god of the Arabic pantheon is the source of the god of Islam more than the god of the Jews or Christians. What little I know of Islam proclaims "Allah is mad because you guys got it wrong.. all these texts floating around are incorrect." Islam tries to put the pantheon god (the one who believes in eye-for-an-eye: 1 for 1 payback) in the place of the christian god (the one who believes in turn-the-other-cheek: 0 for ( ... )
