What kind of border should there be between the U.S. and Mexico?

Should we just stop monitoring it altogether? (Remember, there are large well armed private armies who've setup shop just south of the border, and are looking to expand their territory.) These same armies are the ones who popularized the word "CHEESE" in ( Read more... )

Your post reminded me of the disputed Spartly Islands in South China(by many Southeast Asian countries; as well as China and Taiwan; the islands are believed to be rich in oil). The Philippine government would tell people this 'portion' belongs to us but doesn't revise the Philippine territory(legal way) at all. There are marines patrolling but the border has not been set. SO when the marines arrest illegal Vietnamese and Chinese fishermen, there's nothing the Phil. government can do but set them free because the border has not been 'legally' defined.

Since the mainland Chinese government is the big dog in the argument over the Spratly Islands, I'm guessing that when they decide to start drilling for oil there, nobody is going to try to stop them.

China reminds me of Germany and Japan before World War 2. They keep remembering claims from 1000's of years ago as a reason to invade, and nobody seems to think this is bad. The problem is that the stakes are a lot higher now, and the Chinese have demonstrated many times over they wouldn't hesitate to use any weapon they possess in an offensive manner, regardless of any consequences.

That said, I'm trying to learn chinese so I can think if I want to go work there, because thats where all the jobs for the skills I have are...

OK you got me going on China, I guess that's my next subject. :-)

It seems that no country has the guts to do so. The remedy of the Philippine government is to have some joint expedition.

So you're learning Chinese? That's interesting. I have this notion that Chinese is difficult due to it's tonal nature and the calligraphy to 'memorize'
