Geez! People NEVER run out of stupid comments for us.
I felt out of place with the white side of my family too. As you get older and figure out who you are (without other people telling you who to be) you won't worry about fitting in. You're a part of them... no matter what.
Hey, thanks. It's really reassuring just to hear somebody say "us," honestly. Thank you, and I know you're probably right, about growing into a certain level of comfort. Hopefully, I can work towards speeding that process up... and the feedback is really helpful.
I wish I was there to give you a hug! Don't worry about feeling marginalized. The feeling will never go away, but if you get into more diverse and open environments you might become more comfortable in your own skin. It sounds like there are a lot of rigid divisions in your life as it is, but believe me the boundries can be expanded and blurred. If you are going to college visit the campuses that you can and see what is out there, see how you Feel there, if you feel comfortable in your skin or you know whatever.
You don't owe anyone any definitions. If someone wants to know you, they can know YOU not your skin colors. Read up about racism and it's affects on black people, it will help you understand some darker skinned folks reaction and assumptions about you. You are allowed to stand up for yourself.
Wow, yeah, i can really relate to a lot of that--especially with families not getting so much of what our needs our, etc. Sometimes it can be really frustrating, but I also think it's really, really nifty, in an unexpected kind of way.
