The Game of Life: Have twins!

Oct 07, 2007 03:09

The first few days after the twins were brought home, they were perfect little angels. They hardly made a peep, even though they were passed around to each and everyone one of Nick's folks. Most importantly, they slept. To Sara's dismay, they slept most of the day.

"Babies sleeping?" she would ask every few minutes when they were asleep. She loved to hold them, and as soon as they were up she would look at her parents with the perfected wide-eyed look and ask, "I hold babies?"

Even Dwee liked holding them, though it would be hard to get him to relinquish them once he had them. "Mine," he would say while hovering over them protectively. Nick thought it was the cutest thing.

Slowly, but surely, Nick's family started trickling out and headed back to Texas. His mom and dad were the last ones to leave and didn't go without showering them all with presents.

Emmie and Jake got matching knit hats (with bear ears) and booties. Emmie's was lavender and, to Nick's delight, Jacob's blue. They also got mobiles for their cribs. Emmie's had little bunnies and Jake had yellow ducklings. They gave Lizzie a blue sapphire star pendant, and matching stud earrings, which were young and fun, but still really nice pieces. Sara got a tea party set, with little lace doilies and everything. She made Nick play with her right away, which Bane got a good chuckle out of until Sara started following him around, asking him to play too. Dwee got his very first tricycle. It was firetruck red and had a little wagon, which he could use to pull around his toys. Someone had put the kids' little golf clubs in there, an idea Dwee seemed to like a lot.

Nick and Carolina got gifts too. Along with the coupons for free babysitting, Nick's parents got them both a day at the spa, which was redeemable for an entire year. With the twins being so well behaved, Nick's mom figured they might be able go within the next month or so. Maybe that's what jinxed it.

Nick's parents left and the next day, the crying started.

One morning when the twins started crying simultaneously, Sara went into Nick and Caro's room and climbed into their bed. "Babies crying," she told them with her hands over her ears. Nick acknowledged this phrase, which was frequently repeated multiple times a day, with a tired nod, but it took him a few extra seconds to open his eyes and sit up.

Jake was possibly the better of the two babies. He was usually quiet, but if he did cry, it was a lot harder to get him to stop. Emmie on the other hand, cried constantly when she wasn't being held. And it had to be Nick or Caro who held her. The nanny just would not do. Oh, and it was impossible to get Jake to stop crying if Emmie was crying and vice versa, so their crying often came as a packaged deal.

Yawning, Nick rolled out of bed, and as tired as he was, he was thrilled to have twins.
