1. How about a brief introduction?
Hi! I'm Chris. *waves* I'm a M.S. student in Baltimore, MD. I study science :P
2. What got you into fan fiction (and/or adopting muses)?
Once upon a time, I was really into a little show called Crossing Jordan. While looking for some show info, I stumbled across the CJ Coffeerooms. I pretty much lurked for spoilers and stuff, and then
jordansmuse posted a prompt response for TM and I followed links over to LJ and TM. *shrug*
3. What kind of fan fiction do you write?
I mostly stick to short stuff. Whatever happens to pop up in my head.
4. Do you write for the same pairings/characters?
I'm not sure what this question is asking. I don't write pairings, and whatever muses I have are the ones I write for.
5. What is your most popular fic and why do you think people like it so?
I really have no idea. I would have to go back and find the fics with the most feedback. *laughs*
6. Forget other people, what is the fanfic you've written that you're most proud of and why?
Long before I had even heard of the TARDIS, I gave Nick an interest in time travel. It started off as a way for me to remind the f-list to change their clocks for Daylight Savings, but it sort of became a running joke I had with myself. *g* It's probably not my best writing, but I've had a lot of fun having him talk nerdy science stuff. It's total crack.
There are four chapters, and they make more sense if they're read in order.
http://users.livejournal.com/_nickstokes_/tag/time+travel 7. Do you find writing easy? Hard? What aspects do you struggle with?
Sometimes it's easy, sometimes it's not. It just sort of depends on whether or not I feel fired up. It's relatively easy for me to find a character's voice, so I find RP pretty easy. Fics are harder. I tend to spend a lot of time rewriting.
8. Write a few sentences of your favorite pairing or character.
Well, Nick and Caro would be my favorite pairing. Duh. *points to icon* They're a lot of fun, and we spent a lot of time developing their relationship. My favorite character would be Sara. Jacki was kind enough to let me take on Caro's baby girl, and boy am I thankful. She's a spunky little fireball who terrorizes all the other muses in my head.
9. Are there any fan fiction trends/cliches you hate?
It's not a trend with fan fiction or anything, but a general problem with ALL fiction - I hate, hate hate hate, fiction that's written in second person. It's okay if it's short or a part of dialogue, but I can't read paragraphs of it. I've always found it creepy. Blame those choose your own adventure books.
10. Are you guilty of any of the trends you hate?
I don't think so.
11. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Do you still write for it?
CJ, and sadly I do not write for it anymore.
12. Name your OTPs and explain what it is about them you love to write.
I don't write pairings on my own. Though, I tend to squee OTP for crack pairings or my friends' pairings.
13. What would you call your writing style?
Unstyled.
14. Do you read other people's fan fiction? If so, what do you find yourself reading the most?
Of course! I read a lot, there's really no trend.
15. Name one thing you'd love to write but have been too afraid or too shy to do.
There's plenty of stuff would love to be able to write, but not writing it hasn't had anything to do with being afraid or shy. There are some fandoms that I love, but I don't connect with a single character. I'm too lazy to write anything that requires multiple chapters.
16. Do you feel uncomfortable taking criticism? Or worse, do you have the dreaded bloated ego?
I don't think so. Constructive criticism is nice.
17. When you write, is there anything that helps?
Free time is helpful.
18. What inspires you?
Randomness. *nod* I could write a lot about nothing.
19. Lastly, how would you sum up your fan fiction experiences and you as a writer?
1+1=2?
20. Tag some friends, because they'll hate you for it.
Love. Not hate. :P
