The other day in Women Studies we read this article and it had this really profound quote in it. It made me think and it really sums up why I think we all need a women studies course in our lives... (esp. in high schools!!)

It comes from Delanie Woodlock's article "A call for young women to get mad"

I agree that we need a Women Studies course in HS. (Not that any guys would willingly take it... unless they thought it was a female anatomy class, or something.) Guys can be so degrading sometimes- casually calling girls "bitches" and "hos," and then not understanding why we get upset. It's become too normal to be rude and disrespectful to women.

Also, aren't girls always being told not to wear short skirts and low cut tops, so as to not tempt pervs. Um, yeah. It's totally the victims fault when she gets raped. How about we start telling our boys "don't rape women." Hmmm, yeah.

Thanks for the quote! It's very powerful. :) And thanks for letting me get that rant out. lol. <33

We have to take history... which is basically dead white guy studies, why shouldn't we force this??

Exactly!! Blaming the victim is a HUGE problem, that is one of the reasons why only 10-15% of rapes are even reported. This quote is sad but true, we do have more freedoms but we are still other... and it really does piss me off!!

haha no, rant away.... i feel like doing it alot but i fear my friends will think i am a crazy feminist (I don't know why I should care but I do!)

It is great, sad but oh so true!

It should be offered everywhere, i sort of have a slight crush on most of the guys in my women studies class because they get it, they respect women (or pretend to in class!) :)

I definitely think a women's studies course is needed in high school. I mean that's where there are a lot of issues in terms of how women are treated, y'know?

Good quote!

P.S. It's been awhile, hope things are well!

Exactly, we need to teach it at a younger age and not more people.

It has been awhile! Things are going pretty well with me. I hope all is well with you!! :)
