I forgot this quote from Nicholas Kristof's column yesterday in the New York Times, speaking on the role of the press: "Watchdogs can be mean, dumb and obnoxious, but it would be even more dangerous to trade them in for lap dogs."

Very nice analysis re: being a constructive critic.

And it's so easy to imagine a caricature of a pissed-off bureaucrat, all but apopletic with rage, spitting out the phrase "p-p-partisan p-p-player in p-p-p-p-politics".
