I'm a bit late with this, but I am a few time zones behind.

My sources on the ground tell me that mr brown was suspended by Today, but has since landed on his feet.

Regarding the Straits Times article: "Distorted views in mainstream media must be rebutted: Minister". Apparently available here: http://straitstimes.asia1.com.sg/portal/site/STI/Read more... )

* I'm feeling particularly charitable right now, so (without referring to the exact wording of Bhavani's original reply) I might read that sentence one of two ways. She could be alluding to his disappointment in the system of means testing, which was the context of that remark, or to his disappointment at having an autistic daughter. The ambiguity is not accidental, I am sure.

** There's a Battlestar Galactica quote in the "I am Singaporean" shirts that brown and Miyagi are printing up for sale: "So Say We All". (In the show, it's the equivalent of "Amen.")
I find the reference meaningful for a couple of reasons. First, because of the inherent social commentary: Battlestar Galactica is set in a post-apocalypse universe, where government, military and people all want a say in the fate of human civilisation. Second, because Battlestar Galactica allegedly killed broadcast TV through unauthorised Internet distribution by enthusiastic sci-fi fans ( ... )

i think it's pretty obvious that the ministers are simply out of touch with technology (as much as they pour money into digital media), and worse, who mr. brown really is (i think at one point bhavani actually dissed brown for writing under a pseudonym).

TODAY needs to make a statement. i can't believe no one there got sacked. that pisses me off more than bhavani's ignorance.
