The easiest way to make a rainy day better is to put on a little bit of jazz. When that smokey back bass starts coming through my speakers, everything just feels better. yay! okay, well it's really simple. get a normal bag of fresh cranberries, just ocean spray or whatever works just fine. put them in a deep saucepan with a cup of orange juice (preferably pulp-free - and make sure you rinse the cranberries first, weed out the squishy ones, etc). Normally, if you were making this with water, you would add about a cup of sugar, but since the oj is already sweet, you can get away with a 1/2 cup or maybe 3/4, depending on personal taste. Turn it on medium heat, stirring frequently, until all the cranberries have popped and melted and it's all saucy and wonderful. Let it cool (and put it in a blender for a couple seconds if people prefer extra-smooth sauce.) For the ginger - I suppose you COULD theoretically candy it yourself, with fresh ginger root and what not, but that is so much work for something so insignificant in the grand scheme of Thanksgiving. Last time I went, I know Trader Joe's has some good big chunks of ginger, so I would just recommend cutting those up into very small pieces and using them ( ... )
