I am not sure if they were related, but it is sad that something like this has happened soon after his death. We arn't even through our first semester of school, don't want to even think what else might happen...
Why wouldn't we need metal detectors? If you're saying that there needs to be more changes, then why wouldn't you want them?
Wouldn't you want for weapons to be detected before some student walks into your classroom and attacks you?
I'd feel a lot safer, and that way with the metal detectors, they can find the weapons before anything were to ever happen. Instead of having to use EAP's for when the attack has already occured. That's dumb. I think it's much safer to prevent something compared to knowing what to do in any given situation.
i really don't think valpo is that bad, i do beleive we need changes but not as severe as that. I think the money should be used on something better...
goob can tell you that im pretty smart, but a little common sense will tell you that for every safty measure there will be more ways to circumvent them. i.e. metal detectors. shell glass, plastic, or bone shiv/knife would not be detected. or think of all the art/shop classes where you can make them IN SCHOOL. or foods class where they furnish ready made knives. and just think of the message that the metal detectors would give visitors.
If the school installed metal detectors, it would only be a hassle. Kids are taught "If there's a will, there's a way." SOme will find ways around it, It would also cost too much to put them in, our school is already low on money as it is. But to buy them, install them, hire staff to run them. On every door? I think not.
