Few months back "How Microsoft Lost the API War" article written by Joel Spolsky created a large debate in Microsoft community. Myself at that time, preempted my plan to upgrade win32 UI to WinForms. Yet to go through all the links you have provided. But its tempting to put my premature views for the MS thingy.

They keep on coming up with old stuff with new label. In course of action they redefine the syntax and APIs too. Take that RDO, ADO and ADO.NET for example.

Anyway as far as the inroad, collapse etc is concerned its better to wait and watch rather than jumping on predictions. History has shown huge empires collapsing in no time.

Its evolution. They accept mistakes, they learn, and then they build things differently bcoz this is what they have learnt ( ... )

I agree. They are not committing major mistakes. So may be this time too dynasores will survive along with human, again, in the form of lizards ( ... )
