Summary: Gippal drives the cold away.
There's a cold in Bevelle that gets right down inside him, despite the bright sunshine. He thinks that he'd like to move the center of New Yevon faith, except it's not really faith anymore and the temples are all that's holding it together before it breaks down into a broken chain of scattered people who still cling to their beliefs like faded flowers from a lover.
He thinks all the cold comes from all the lost souls wandering who, too attracted to the cold lies of Yevon, have been able to leave, not strong enough to survive but too holy to become fiends. It's a silly thought and a fanciful one but as he lies in his bed he shivers at the feeling that hundreds of eyes are watching him.
Gippal comes to stay and refuses to let him think of such things. He seems to know him inside out, know every part of him, and he knows his fears and the cold of the night.
Maybe he knows it because he lives in a temple, too.
He drives the cold away, takes Baralai to bed early and keeps him up late, driving away every tingle of cold and bringing only heat and warmth and love in its wake. And when he leaves, Baralai is left with nothing to keep him awake at night but the thought of Gippal's hands on his body, warm and alive.
