I found out today that my grandfather has been in the hospital since Friday and that it doesn't look good. He ruptured his spleen on Friday, went into surgery, and his now having complications with pneumonia and possible congestive heart failure. Since he has a DNR, the doctors aren't giving much hope

Oh no. How could that have been missed when he went to the doctor after falling? Or was it not missed, but you only just heard about it?

I am so sorry. I knew that something had happened with him, but we didn't really get a chance to talk at the rehearsal and I gathered from your affect (rightly or wrongly) that asking about it in that venue would not be appreciated.

Actually, it wasn't that grandfather. Part of the emotional turmoil I've been going through is that the week before it was my mother's father who was in the hospital. This weekend it is my father's father. So things aren't well in general with my grandfathers.

And family politics aren't helping much either. :~P
