Wow... about the band. I'm wearing my TMTL shirt right now even... I can't even imagine how much free time you must have now.
Yay for pushups and situps! I've started doing them since I moved (I always felt self-conscious doing them in front of someone else, and now I have my own space again) and I haven't had THAT impressive of results, but I'm pretty pleased too. :) When I started I couldn't even do 2 pushups, and last night I did 10 full-on, all the way down pushups. :) Now to go from girly-style to boy-style... ;)
And congrats again for continuing with your smoke free lifestyle.
Right on for you too then! Yeah! :) Funny, but I'm wearing my TMTL shirt at work this morning. Good luck on the workout stuffs. I know how tough it can be to push yourself like that but after few weeks it can start to feel a bit more like habit. BTW, I hope school's going well for you. I just hired a new systems student and all the systems documents you put in the wiki have been really helpful in getting him oriented and trained. Many thanks for all your hard work here. You kick ass too. :)
Hope your sabbattical from music playing isn't a long term thing. Take a nice break but get into another band eventually. Bandmember + Personal self confidence = many happy returns.
I'll need to find just the right kind of music and just the right group of musicians for me to consider doing it again. Not to say that it won't happen, but I've been spoiled. I don't want to expend all that energy on a project that I can't fully believe in, ya know? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE playing music still but one does not need to be in a band to play.
See, you always struck me as a very smart, discerning woman. I'm actually pleasantly surprised that you thought I was attractive in the past. For some reason I always felt like nothing short of a genius boy would be able to keep up with you or even capture your interest. Yeah, that's actually a compliment. I have a lot of respect for you. :)
So, I didn't know you before Burning Man. Would not be able to comment.
But the two times I've met you, I thought you were all that you were describing: confident, attractive,... So I'm happy that you can see these things in yourself, too. What I liked best about you were the questions you asked and the things you had to say. You know, conversations with substance. That's a magnet, right there. Sexy!! So put that up there with your crunches and the no-longer-smoking :)
I'd say I wish you good luck, but it doesn't sound like you need it :)

I hope you realize you're one of the people who has helped me to feel this way. You're attractive and smart with a degree in genetics from Stanford...and you're saying all these nice things about me. Do you see how that might build a man's confidence? ;)
PS. In regard to that post about funny gene nicknames and your other published articles I just wanted to tell you how impressed I am with your writing skills too. It was all easy-to-read, interesting stuff.
The shirt I am wearing today is a pinkish red. And while I read this comment of yours here, a lab mate observed: "Your face is the same color as as your shirt!"
Stop getting me in trouble everywhere (or don't)! 200 miles *should* be a safe distance!!
