So, that thing in the desert I do every year. Burning Man. Yeah, I hope I can still go to that. You see, as a consciencious renter, I dropped off my rent check early and clearly wrote "Post until 9-1-06" on it to ensure they wouldn't try to cash it before my next direct deposit ( Read more... )

Short term bank loan? Not one of those Check-into-cash places, but a legitimate bank. Get a $1000 loan or a month. :D

Well, you could run the whole thing on credit card, but that would suck...more.

Did you really write "post until 9-1-06"? or do you mean "Do not post until 9-1-06". If you wrote "post until 9-1-06", it means they CAN post before the end of the month. What did you write on the date portion? If you wrote 9/1/2006 on the date line, then you can go to your bank and complain - reverse overdraft and transfer fees - you will need to order a copy of the check though.

Oh dear lord, I'm screwed. In the heat of hurried preparations I forgot the terminology somehow believed post meant "hold". You are correct. I've done this in the past and written "Don't post...". Also, I wrote the current date when I wrote it. Yep, totally fucked.
Still, common sense would dictate that maybe I meant "do not post until". What would "Post until" mean? "Go ahead and withdraw this money from my checking account immediately but give it right back as soon as my rent is due." Ummm, right.

Yeah - I could see how a bank employee might not notice that you wrote "post until." They might just look at the date on teh check. Maybe you can explain that you were in a hurry and try to get the bank to reverse the fees anyway as a sign of goodwill to a normally good customer(?) It could be worth a shot. Good luck. :)

...in addition to refunding the money as you are hoping. I guess in this case it isn't their fault, but I'd think any bank w/ good customer service would be willing to help you nonetheless. (Sucks for you if you have BofA or something.) Again, good luck.

Wow, I really can't express how much I appreciate the offer. I probably would have taken you up on it (and paid you back next month) if Greg hadn't been right around the corner with funds to help. Thanks so much, Sergio. :)
