We're in escrow!

For those who are curious about our house-hunting saga, we made an initial offer on Monday.  A couple counters later, our original offer was more-or-less *accepted* with the contingency that the seller has 17 more days to find a place to move to in Paso.  If all goes well, we will be closing the deal within two weeks.  The house is amazing and, by ( Read more... )

Hooray!
I'm totally jealous, you know.
BTW, do you two wanna come over for dinner tonight? Oh, and help braid my hair?

Heh. Well, I can tell you right up front that you probably don't want either of us braiding your hair. Chantelle would get pretty tired probably before she even got half way through and me... well, I would do it very very wrong. Even if we were world class hair-braiders, though, we usually have our "date night" on Friday's and I get the feeling we're going to try and take it easy and just spend a little quiet time with each other. I won't speak for Chantelle, however, so if she ends up really wanting to come out maybe we'll see you anyway. Either way, thanks for the invite and I hope you find someone to fix you up before you leave. Cheers! :)

Well believe me, if Joelzero can do it, you can. But I respect your wish for a nice date night, and won't push the issue.
Have a lovely weekend!

DO, by all means, reserve some enthusiasm. if you can detach yourself from the emotions of buying, it'll go far better for you in the long run. what should be a financial and level headed decision can become an emotional and often irrational purchase. not sayin you are, but look at how many people went into a variable apr at an all time low, leveraged to the gills, all to buy a house they "want", not the house they "need". i've learned to save my excitement for them the keys are handed over.

Amen! It's hard to avoid at least some emotion where purchases and commitments of this magnitude are concerned. However, we both feel like we've done our homework on this one (for months, really) and that this is a sound purchase for all the right reasons. I can't deny that we'll be heartbroken to a certain extent if the deal falls through for some reason, but the house and the deal itself are as good as one could hope for within our reasonable constraints. Like you, I will be the most relieved and excited when the keys are actually in my hand. :)

yeah. i still feel sick about houses we wanted and could have bought but one thing or another just wasn't right about the deal.

there was one house, in one of the best neighborhoods in sac.. it literally around the corner from the park. only 2 neighbors to deal with, a MASSIVE yard, old high water tudor, *sigh* original windows and stuff... it was beautiful... a full basement... and in the corner of that basement, the whole foundation was cracked and broken off completely and was 4 inches from the rest of the foundation.. and there were signs of rot under the floor :( we drove by that house probably 20 times. ryan would have been in the best school in the county. it would have never passed pest inspection and we didn't have enough cash to pass it so the bank would fund the loan. seller wanted nothing to do with repairs since they sunk 30,000 into renovating it already. it still kills me that we couldn't do it. the house was 300. anything else in that area goes for 600 to 1 mill. and more.

Good for you guys!

You know, they say the three most stressful things in life are getting married, having a kid, and buying house. You seem to be handling it like a pro!
