We would love buy in SLO but even in a depressed market, you pay way too much for way too little around here. We opted to buy our first place in Atascadero and we got a really fantastic place for the price. My current dream is to trade up eventually and move back but you just never know where life will take you. I'm stoked to own my own little piece of this earth now, though. I can put in solar panels or a hot tub if I want. Never could do that as a renter. :)
Hehe I'll either be in awe or abject fear. I've heard all kinds of perspectives on childbirth ranging from "beautiful life-giving angel" to "channeling Satan for several hours". Not sure which one we're in for yet. ;) Anyway, thanks for the kind wishes. I think of you and Tyler often and still read your posts/look at your baby photos whenever I can. The Beanlet is such a cutie! :) Wishing you two the very best...
Before we left for Iraq, my father game Jayme and I some advice: you will bicker. Accept this, it is normal.
And my grandfather: never go to bed angry with each other.
Both have served me well in our marriage to date, but have been crucial to the birth and infancy. It's hard, and you don't get enough sleep and you blame each other for every slight, and *sigh* she's CRYING AGAIN!
It's normal, just work through it and you'll do well.
Very good advice indeed. I can't vouch for us in the underslept future but we've been good at not fighting, escalating arguments or going to bed angry so far. In many relationships that comes from denying the truth, I think, but for us it comes from the ability to speak the truth to each other without feeling judged or fearing that the other person will fly off the handle. She's easily the most understanding and rational woman I've ever been with and for that I am grateful. I expect we'll get impatient with each other or use the wrong tone from time to time and, as you said, this is normal. My hope is that we will continue to recognize these things right when they occur and address them with honest apologies. Anyway, I appreciate your input, Tyler. If you have any other gems to share as you settle into fatherhood, do pass them my way. Cheers.
