a few years ago, i was getting tired of taking "the pill" every day and dealing with the nausea it gave me if i didn't eat something every five seconds. so i talked to my doctor about several options, including the patch, but after she told me about several cases of her patients getting pregnant despite being on it, i decided to go on the ring ( Read more... )

I've only been on the ring for 5 months, and I was wondering how you liked it on a long term level? Prior to the ring, I was on depo-provera for 9 months, and went through hell (hair loss, back aches, weight gain, headaches, and most of all... complete loss of sex drive (toooo good of a birth control)). Since it can take a year to recover from all of Depos side effects, I'm not positive on how I like the ring.

And, as a note on the patch, along with it not being as effective... it can become quite costly. If your skin is too oily, or too dry, they tend to fall off. At which point your only choice is to throw another one on. At thirty dollars a pop, that can get expensive.

Sidenote- I found your journal because you replied to a post I made in a fashion community about a pair of purple Miu Miu heels and what to wear with them. 1) Thank you for being truthful to the girl who posted the purple dress. I didn't have the heart to. 2) Brownie points for associating them with Prada. Most people don't know the background.

in the 3 years i've been on it (vs. 4 years of "the pill") i've found that, like virtually every other bc (from label warnings, at least), the ring has it's side effects. for me they've been infinitely milder than when i was on the pill. i no longer have nausea. my food cravings are almost non existent. i have very mild mood swings, but only the week that i take it out. i haven't experienced weight gain of more than 5 lbs the entire time i've been on it (which actually might be normal weight gain for someone my age not taking bc. i'm not sure). i'm very happy with it. and so are the other women i know who use it. the thing is, hormones, like any other prescription drug, are different for everyone (i'm sure you know that), but all things considered, i'd definitely recommend it to anyone, any day.

anyway. yeah. so (1) no problem. (2) yeah, i'm not sure how they couldn't tho. i mean, miuccia prada? duh.
