Backstreet concert Saturday night. Minnesota State Fair. Notes are as much for me as they are for you.

Lindsey Jo arrived Friday night. I picked her up at the airport, and we went to dinner at Granite City (which, I think is a Minnesota chain) once Matt got home from work. Later was just the typical Matt-and-Liz-clear-out-the-DVR-fest.

We left for the State Fair by 1:30 or so on Saturday. I don't know what State Fairs are like in other states, but we take ours very seriously here. It's a 12-day event of epic proportions. In any case, we managed to be there by 2:30. In the ensuing 5-6 hours, we ate cheese curds, bull bites, soda, caramel apples, deep fried fresh fruit, deep fried alligator, frozen grapes, beer, Hawaiian shave ice, roasted corn, Sweet Martha's cookies, and milk (I probably forgot something). In case you haven't noticed, the Fair is all about the food.

Throughout the day, we met up with 3 of my high school friends (and their significant others). This matters to you for two reasons: they are really nice people, and 2 of them went to the concert with us (Sarah and Laura).

The concert actually started at 7:30 with something called Girlicious. I'm told they were a reality-TV creation. I wouldn't know. We didn't enter the concert until around 8 (but when we did, we had 4 dozen chocolate cookies in hand).

There were 6 19-year-old boys in front of us. We assumed they were there to meet girls (and they were doing okay with it). They tried to talk us up some... and we let them, because they were all over 6 feet tall and we wanted their seats. They were also begging beer off of the intoxicated girls next to us. These girls were very annoying.

With a few minutes to go, LJG asked if I knew how the concert opened. I did not allow her to tell me. But I will tell you, in my notes from the concert...

What I did was to send myself text messages about things I wanted to remember. I think they are basically in chronological order of occurence. Here goes...

We're back Toward the end of the first song (you'll have to go to LJG for an exact set list), Nick made a fact into the camera and tauntingly says, "We're baa-ack." It was excellent.

Salsa hips. Each boy did a solo piece. Howie's was a song I do not know, but he was wiggling his hips all over the place. He seemed to be enjoying himself. Sarah mused that Howie got cuter. By which we meant "cute at all."

Liquor? For SMTM, the boys were all sitting at a table playing cards. On the table was a bottle of "liquor" and 4 cups. This seemed a little odd to me, what with the whole AJ thing.

Pull his pants up. Nick was wearing his pants very low (think Michael Phelps, but lower), and l leaned over to Sarah and said "That boy needs to pull his pants up." Then I had to take a second to regroup, because I felt old.

Everything I do is for D." Fairly self-explanatory. A play on words during QPG.

Phone in one camera in the other. I don't remember which song it was, but I looked over at LJG and she was holding her phone in one hand (so Crystal could hear the song) and was taking pictures with her camera using the other hand.

Dropped his mic. Again, don't remember the song. But Brian dropped his mic on the ground (to a rather audible thump) and had to pick it up with a very sheepish look on his face.

Baylee This would be the item that is out of sequence. The show started with an adorable Baylee Littrell (whose backstage pass was larger than he was) giving the crowd a little comedy routine. I don't remember much of what he said, but it was adorable.

Who signed Brian's guitar? Bryan's solo was "Welcome Home" (which had me just about falling on the floor... actually jumping up and down like a teeny), which he played on his guitar. But his guitar has a couple of signatures on it, and I want to know what they are.

Doctors This is a cool fact about Minnesota concerts. Brian's 1998 heart surgery was at the Mayo Clinic, which is about 80 miles south of Minneapolis/St. Paul, so his doctors come to every Minnesota show. He always greets them, and it's really cool.

Rock shirts Throughout the show, the Boys had shirts from: Queen, Run DMC, Black Sabbath, KISS... Crap, I can't remember them all. But it was kind of fun.

Another note:
Nick's solo was "I Got You." Having gone into the show "spoiler-free," I was shocked and elated when he did it. Absolutely amazing. And, not gonna lie, he's looking really cute again these days.

It was an excellent show. I'm glad we were able to go. Pictures to follow, once I get my camera back from my beautiful baby brother.
