In general, I'm pretty bored with life right now. Hopefully what I'm worried about is not true. That would definitely be the opposite of boring, and not in a good way. School is school. I went to the career fair and landed an interview with Georgia Pacific for a position at one of their paper mill plants in Brewton, AL. Hyundai seems as if ( Read more... )

It's in south Alabama, about 80 miles north of Mobile. Exxon Mobil also contacted me today. I'm not sure if I want the type of job they are hiring for, but working for an oil company could have its advantages, even if I have to move to Texas or Virginia.

While they weren't laughing away my degree they were telling me how I should have been an engineer. haha

I'd think twice about the oil company shit. Because as an engineer you'd almost undoubtedly be either at a refinery or on a platform. Plat form means you'd probably have the kind of 3 months away, 2 months at home schedule Jen's dad has...not to mention look at my lj for stories about Somolian pirates and how much they just looooove Westerners coming to rape their land of it's natural resources.

Yeah. I believe I might just go to the interview, if even just to practice interviewing. From what they told me on the phone today, I don't believe they are looking for anything that's really safety related. If they are, then I would most definitely be on the ocean trying to help maintain a rig. That doesn't sound to enticing to me.

Hyundai's been kinda playing games with me. They "really think I am a good candidate" but we play e-mail tag and phone tag a lot. Though, it's probably because they want someone now and don't want to wait seven months. I really hope the economy is at least improving by the time I get a job so I didn't work this hard for this long to earn pocket change.

Unless there's a major turn around I honestly expect our generation to be fucked in so far as "getting rich." The stock market/housing slump/auto slump is looking more and more depression than recession. This looks like the kind of shit that won't be fixed for 10 to 20 years if things are handled well.
