So, finally got around to watch The Dark Knight. Sorry, but I was disappointed. :( Maybe it was all the hype around the late Joker, rest his soul - from everything I've heard and read about it I was probably expecting too much. A great actor, absolutely, and he did a fine job...but still. Dunno, I like both heroes and villains as grey as ( Read more... )

I really liked the Dark Knight, I don't know whether I would have ever watched it if it hadn't been for HL. I didn't expect much but I soon forgot about the Joker because I felt the questions of the film was really intriguing - what makes a hero a hero and the narrow gap between a hero and a villain, which reminded me of the saying: A dog is one meal from being a wolf.

But maybe we're just not on the same page when it comes to movies as I really liked Brokeback Mountain ;o)

I guess I don't really , er, how should I put it, *believe* in superheroes? You know who was the big hero for me in this movie? The black guy on the prisoner boat, the guy who threw the detonator out the window. He stood up for what he believed was right - a "bad guy" who had the integrity to do what the others didn't have the balls to do. The others could've thrown themselves at him in that moment, and he didn't have a mask to hide behind.
That made me smile and think that there's hope for mankind. Not Batman, or Superman or Spidey, but the little people who make a conscious effort to do what's right. I guess *my* problem with superheroes is that they take the responsibility away from the rest of us. They do the job so we won't have to deal, and we need to deal, we need to ask those uncomfortable questions and take a stand. Know what I mean?

Christian Bale? kimuro July 27 2009, 12:11:32 UTC
Did you see Reign of Fire. That's the only thing I can think of that I've seen him in and I was mostly watching it for Gerard Butler's Creedy - Scottish accent and a bit of a clown, definitely my sort of character!

OTOH, I'm not much impressed with heroes, I prefer the guys standing in their shadow - more mystery = more exciting.

I agree with you, the side characters are what makes the story in this film (to me that is, we're all different). The policeman, the DA, way more interesting than Batman himself.
I dunno, I just can't find it in me to care about Bale's Batman and I'm not sure why.

I thought Watchmen was pretty good, and I'll spare you spoilers except to say 'they changed the ending! (slightly)' ;)

Yeah, I heard. ;) Don't be afraid of spoiling me. It's just the experience of watching, being *there* so to speak... Hmm. Think it's gonna be okay. ;) Most of the haters seem to be people who didn't GET it and, let's face it, some people never will.
I'm so looking forward to seeing it I could die. *knock on wood*
