Someone is emailing me, trying to sell me Oprah tickets. I'm pretty positive that woman is the antichrist. Does anyone remember that Bill Hicks bit where he talks about bands sucking Satan's cock? If he had been around to witness the wave of Oprah obsession, he would have said that about her ( Read more... )

Goddamn, I miss Bill so much. I love the aggression he throws into that particular bit, nothing held back, just honesty and common sense, as you said.

"When did mediocrity and banality become a good image for your children? I want my children to listen to people who fucking ROCKED!"

His ghost (or something akin) needs to be resuurected and called forth to make intelligent comedic commentary of all the bullshit that is plaguing the world today.

oh fuck i was just about to post this clip. the only high-profile comedian who has been saying & is still saying it is george carlin; they share a lot of crossover material but i feel that bill is more folksy and guttural while george is more intellectually devastating. also, funnier. but i'm biased because i got bored and watched 15 hours of amazing amazing george carlin. here is just one example;

on the cognitive dissonance in the environmental movement and our collective narcissism.

also; he is good with hecklers.

He is really good. I've heard some of his stuff before. I think he's the Bill Hicks of a different generation. Or rather, just a different mentality. They called Bill Hicks the Rockstar Comedian. They said that he took the aspect of rock and roll icons that young people loved, and he incorporated that into his demeanor in a way that made him the beloved comedian of people that didn't care about comedy. I think that's true.

I just like intelligent, funny people that point out the obvious that seems so hard for so many to grasp. Carlin is good. I'm going to netflix HIS video now.

haha! you don't have to, unless you want to. someone uploaded all his HBO specials to youtube, in their entirety (usually 7 ten minute clips) -- my personal favorites are probably you are all diseased (1999), back in town (1996), and 2005 - life is worth losing. i didn't much care for his latest in 2008; in fact i can't even remember what it was called, he's 70 and has slowed down considerably since the '90s.

yes, i agree with you; appealing not only to a different demographic but a different mentality entirely. in all fairness though i have heard more about bill than i have seen/heard him. i think someone gave me rant in e-minor like ten years ago and it didn't make a deep impression on me, although i did giggle in many places. best is his stance on gays in the military, hahaha.

All right, after consideration, you should see both heckler videos.

I really love his stuff.
