Due to many unwanted and long-lasting interruptions, I'm currently only up to chapter 4 but have skimmed through other selective sections. To put it simply: I probably am one of the most vindicated-feeling person on earth at the moment, and HBP is at the same time my favorite book ever.

Put behind the cut even though these are perhaps spoilers to none )

My thoughts exactly.
Also, no-one can ever use the 'U fangirls just <3 teh movie version' again, what with JKR getting confused between them herself (didja see the bit that mentions Hermione's 'punching' Draco? Tsk, tsk, JKR, movies aren't canon.)

A better person than me wouldn't have felt so damn smug. I am not that better person, unfortunately.
Haha I haven't seen the punch reference with my own eyes yet, but I saw your comment somewhere else and thought it a wonderful blackmail material, let's save it for possible future use if Rowling shows signs of turning back to the side of big lame light again. Kidding, of course ;-)

"Obviously Draco will fall more and more into oblivion, because he's just a 2D bully, and Harry has more important things to worry about."
Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

Muhahahahahahahahahahahaha. I seriously had to gasp and wonder if I really was reading canon when Rowling put Harry, obsess, and Draco in the same sentence for what must've been the 54549898498th time X-DDDDD

Snape's reminding other DEs about Voldemort needs to savor finish off Harry by himself, I think, was a thinly-veiled effort to save Harry's little ass too. Nope, Snape is SO NOT EVIL.

H/G is certainly nothing compared to H/D in terms of intensity and impact on Harry, puuuuuuuliz, Draco is totally the most important peer student outside of trio in this series now!!!
I would go read the many great Snape-related essays once I've finished reading the book (still 100 pages or so to go!), there really are NO WORDS to describe my love for HBP!!!

Suffice to say, YES HA HA HA HA WE TOLD THEM HA!
Well, I feel better. :D
Honestly, after searching through thousands of pages of material to try to seperate the gold from the dross, we get canon backing. And I think you're right on too, with the idea that JKR was thinking "WTF, you're not supposed to like him yet!"
Oh, so so good.

I did have considered the possibility of a valid reason JK couldn't have developed Draco yet in OOTP, after I calmed down from severe loathing of the book. But I'd never have thought it remotely possible JK was merely playing cold/indifferent about Draco, while all along had a huge Draco storyline in store for us! She was once asked if she had a plan for Draco, she then said she had a plan for every character and soonly changed topic, totally downplaying Draco's significance and got everyone fooled. Was she laughing inside :P?
