Middle English Arrrgh

Because I am an elitist asshole, I've come to the conclusion that this "NaNoWriMo" thing is the stupidest idea ever. What is the point of writing a novel if it sucks? It's like doing a marathon without any training--you look like shit as you're doing it, you resort to crawling at mile 20, and then you puke all over everything after crossing the ( Read more... )

whatever, my life consists of me taking naps that are longer than they should be, buying too many groceries, and wishing i wasn't in school, though i have no idea what the alternative is.

whatever life.
so basically the moral of the story is life can't always be as great as it is for other people.

NaNoWriMo is beyond stupid. I like to use it though as an impetus to do some work on my never-ending novel though because there's a lot of enthusiasm about it from some pretty good writers who, while being fanfic writers, are not 13 year-old Emo Harry Potter fans.

And about Evangelicals popping up in random places around the world...I met about the entire Pentacostal population of Poland when I was in Lublin two weeks ago. It was weird, but they were very nice. I think that enthusiasm can be an appealing path to God, but there does need to be a more intellectual element. I'm not sure how it's set up in Poland, but it seems to be a lot of young people who are pretty smart and looking for spiritual fulfilment because they're tired of the stuffyness and cultural dominance of the Roman Catholic Church.

Take care and enjoy the Canterbury Tales!

I'm doing NaNoWriMo. My roommate is the leader of it in Iowa City. I can confirm that most of the people doing it are losers writing sci-fi and Harry Potter fanfics, but fuck you for saying that other people shouldn't exercise their creativity unless their creativity is endorsed by NPR or McDaveEggers'Semen or whatever else is hip.

uh yeah i never actually said that. people should write whatever they want whenever they want, but i think setting up quantity as more important than quality is backwards. it's telling people they can write without thinking, and that seems totally futile to me.
