Salene and Bray:Darkness Unknown

Jan 12, 2004 08:09

Salene continued to sit there on the cold hard floor under the door, under the place light had just come, light and warnings of her future. Her knees were pulled up to her chest, her elbows resting on them, her hands over her ears. She was rocking back and forth, her head hurt, and again the sounds were coming at her, only this time, it wasn't just ( Read more... )

Bray sat lost in his thoughts. So much had happened he was in some kind of shock.

"What are you thinking?"

A punctuation to the silence. It took him a few minutes to comprehend what she had said. It took him a few seconds to realise who had said it. Then he remembered himself.

"I am Zoot," he said sighing. Maybe if they heard they'd accept him as Zoot and he could get out of here. Get back to Amber. But what about Salene? Well they'd listen to him, wouldn't they, they'd listen and do as he said, and let her go.

Yes, he was Zoot, if that's who he needed to be... but deep down he felt a pang of remorse for his brother, but he held it back.

Salene shifted, sitting crosslegged now, in a haze of blinded confusion. He...was he admitting it or accepting it? Did it matter? Any moment now, her brain would come to believe it, and he would forever be Zoot in her memory, up until her death tomorrow, she would die believing that. She had better start...worshiping him. Salene stood and faced him, "So you shall forever be," her voice was low, and if there had been light, she would have looked down at the floor. "What...what shall I do for you? I am at your command," it..it felt so wrong, and in some ways right, Salene was so confused. Her stomach grumbled, reminding her that they had not eaten in a very long time, "Shall I get you something to eat? We haven't eaten in a long time," she reminded quietly, a shiver running up her spine.

[OOC--Continued from HERE ]

May opened one of the doors, peering down into the darkness. In the light of dusk she couldn't see anything. Were Salene and Bray really down there?

Salene squinted, panic coursing through her as the doors opened again, it wasn't as bright as before, but the light still bothered her eyes. Were they coming for her already? She didn't want to die! Salene moved to the opening, squinting, trying to make out this shape of person, they...they didn't look like "Chuckie". "Please, please don't kill me! I swear, I believe, I will join you, I'm not saying that just to get out of here, I mean it, I feel that way, I will do what you ask of me!" It was her final chance, she had to say something, she had to try to convince whoever this was to let her free, instead of kill her. Of course Charles wouldn't show up for the execution, of course not he would never witness such attrocities at his command, but maybe this person, maybe they would listen to her. "Please," she repeated, eyes begging through the squints, falling to her knees, feeling so weak and unlike herself, confusion sinking in. Had a whole day passed her by in those moments? Had she lost a whole day in her delusions? Was her life ( ... )

Salene looked to Bray, excitement flashing in her eyes, the words of Ryan comforting and exciting her, she felt as if she would cry, she could clearly see Cloe and May talking, rope being pulled out, and Salene embraced Bray in a hug, unable to contain herself, they were saved! If she was imagining this she'd never survive it, but it sounded and looked so real, she couldn't help but believe in it. Salene rushed around the dark pit, now with a light shining down, and gathered things, shoving them into the canvas bag they'd tossed down, hoping they could take it with them, for the trek home. Plus, she was starving, and now she could stop rationing food again, oh to eat and drink would be to live again! And light! LIGHT ( ... )

Cloe let herself be pulled into Salene's arms. She tried to move the rope out of the way. "Oh salene, you're ok! And Bray!" Tears began to flow from her eyes.
"But we need to hurry!" Cloe untied the rope from herself.
"who wants to go up first?"

You call that okay? May thought, listening to what was going on as she took ahold of the rope with Ryan. With the lantern shining down she could see Salene, Bray, and Cloe down in the pit. Hurry up! There was only a little sunlight left, and even that would be gone in a few minutes. And after Salene and Bray they still had to find Mouse and Baby B.
