Salene and Ryan:To Market

May 31, 2004 22:14

Salene led Ryan downstairs, glad that Cloe had gone after Mouse, she was worried about her but she also knew she couldn't always run after her. She had to get used to things, and sometimes a Mother's interference did no good at all, hopefully Cloe could talk to her one on one, make her feel better. Ryan walked beside her as they headed to Market wondering how long it would be before the kids took over the Mall? He, like Salene, could already see the problems beginning to form. But he hoped they would be able to be handled before any kind of permanent damage was done. His kids weren't perfect angels, he knew that better than anyone. But...except perhaps for one or two...they were more mischief makers than trouble makers.
"Have we got alot to get?" He asked, realizing he might have been quiet too long.

Ryan nodded. It didn't sound like they had too much to pick up then. Atleast not in variety. He wasn't so sure that that basket she had brought would carry everything they needed though. Well, some of the traders had obviously raided stores after the virus because they had paper and plastic bags that they put the wares they sold in. With all different kinds of names on the bags, none of which that had anything to do with what they were selling. "Doesn't sound like it'll be too hard to find everything then."

He smiled, placing his other hand on hers laced through his arm. It was nice to spend some time when it was just the two of them. No Mall, No MallRats. Yet unable to leave their responsibilities behind. Salene was City Leader, recognized by ever kid who lived on these streets. Being 'alone' wasn't quite so private as it once had been.

Salene winked at Ryan before stopping at the first booth. She was buying a few things for dinner tonight, they had mostly everything Trudy needed for the stew, or rather, for the stew Salene was going to have to make tonight for Trudy, and breakfast was easy, Rice and Eggs (she hoped), salad for lunch, but Alice's dinner tomorrow night called for quite a few ingredients that needed overnight prep, and Salene was hoping to find the ingredients today, to get a head start. She only needed 2 cans of tomato paste from this booth, but what she had to trade was overvalued. She grabbed some sesame seeds and looked around, shrugging and grabbing the jug of shelled peanuts. What would they do when these things ran out? It didn't matter, use them now while you had them, learn to make what you could before that ( ... )
