Salene and Ryan's Sitting Room:Salene and Mouse (and a sleeping Ryan)

Aug 30, 2004 01:12

Salene walked away from Moon's Room, shaking her head. It had rubbed her the wrong way that Danni was insistent on being voted back in, sure she'd once been a leader here in the Mall, and of course she was always headstrong and about doing what was "right" by others, but they had a system, it was one both Salene and Amber, the leaders of the Tribe ( Read more... )

Mouse looked thoughtfully at Salene. She wasn't really sure that she wanted to read at the moment. Ryan is in here? Mouse thought looking around, and seeing him on the bed, still asleep. "Shouldn't he be up by now?" She muttered to herself, then felt ashamed at how obnixious it came out. Mouse was still a little sore that Pride hadn't come to visit her and hadn't sent a letter. Why can't Pride come around like Hawk does... She though feeling sad, her mouth turning down. "You can read Salene." Mouse stopped talking and looked around, then back up at Salene. Scrunching her nose up, she looked away again. Mouse really wanted to ask about Flower, but... she was worried Salene would think her selfish.

Salene nodded, "He should but we um," she frowned, trying to think of how to word it, "we had some grown up parties last night, had a bit to drink, celebrating Amber and Bray getting married, so he might've had too much, needs to sleep it off," her own head was still throbbing, that dull ache behind her right eye hadn't left her at all, but she was able to work around it. Water would have helped, right about then, but she'd forgotten to bring some, so she'd just have to suffer.

Flipping the book open, Salene chose an old favorite of hers, The Little Red Hen. She was about to begin reading, but a look on Mouse's face made her stop, and she put her thumb in between the pages and closed the book. "Mouse? What's wrong honey?" She was worried that she'd upset her with talking about the kidnapping, and her tone was soft and comforting, the look on her face warm and compassionate.

Mouse looked up at Salene. Too much had already happened today, did Mouse really want to add to it? She sniffed to herself. Then it came out in a rush. "Flower always calls you Mommy, and it really bothers me. But Anna, Willow, and Tatty say that you aren't. Why does she call you mommy then? She hardly knows you. And I'm afraid that she'll take my place and that you love me anymore. And I really wish Pride would visit because I miss him." She said, and tears leaked out of her eyes again. Mouse was getting really sick of crying.

Salene's heart broke, but it was still pounding in her ears, something that always happened when she was nervous or confronted by something she didn't want to deal with, confrontation. It made the throbbing behind her eye hurt more, and she put the book down and pressed her palm against her eyeball, as if holding it in place would make the hurt less painful. She sighed softly and pulled Mouse into her lap sideways, hugging her tight and rocking a bit. "She's not my daughter, you're right, and I'm not her Mommy, but she thinks of Ryan as a father," she tried to explain, it was just so confusing. "I don't know how to explain why she calls me Mommy, it threw me for a loop yesterday, honestly," she continued to rock a bit ( ... )
