Salene/Bray:In The Dark:Location Unknown

Nov 07, 2003 06:42

Salene rolled over and cuddled up to the warm body next to her and smiled, it was so nice to be sleeping next to Pride, it always was. She sighed, content, and wondered why there was so much blanket between them, she wanted to feel his skin next to hers, it made her feel centered and whole to feel the warmth of his flesh. She took a deep breath and ( Read more... )

"Amber!" Bray called out, then suddenly he was awake. He looked round, it was still black. He assumed his head was better, since he felt like he was thinking straight. He was hungry and thirsty still. He didn't know where Salene was, she wasn't lying with him, he didn't know if she had last night. If she hadn't she might still be asleep, and he didn't want to wake her so he laid there and waited. He couldn't tell waht time it was, he had no idea how long he'd been a sleep, or unconscious the day before.

He felt the bandage round his wound, it was covered in dry blood, but it wasn't fresh, it must have stopped when he was asleep, hopefully. His shoulder stung, it felt inflamed, but it was only a small cut so he didn't worry.

Salene jumped, she felt her adrenaline rushing now and she quickly wiped away at her eyes. Bray called Amber and sounded so desperate, it had frightened her, she hadn't expected that. She kind of chuckled at herself for being so silly and waited, listening for him to say something else, she didn't want to wake him unless it got worse. She thought he'd gone back to sleep whens he heard movement and she wiped her cheeks off and said, "Bray? Are you awake?" as quietly as she could, not wanting to wake him or scare him or anything.

Bray looked up, not that it made much difference in this terrible dark place. "Yeah, I'm awake," he said quietly. Deep down he felt silly for being quiet, he doubted anyone could hear, but the darkness just made him want to whisper. "I was just checking the bleeding, it's stopped. How are you holding up?"

Salene smiled, "Oh good, I'm glad it's stopped, but you should probably lay still for a while, don't want to reopen it again," she said, sounding stern and laughing at herself for sounding so motherly. "I'm, holding up I guess, we'll get through this, I'm just really glad to have a friend down here with me. Are you still cold?" She laid back down next to him and put her hands behind her head, relaxing a bit, not like she could do anything productive in the dark.

Salene agreed silently, she wanted out of here too, she wanted to warn the others, and her mind wandered to Pride and then Mouse and her heart raced, what if they took Mouse? She wouldn't survive locked up in a dark room alone, she was just a little girl. Salene felt this rush through her and became determined. "Here, let's take you back to the blankets and I'll go around the room myself, I'll search thoroughly, you just have to keep talking to me so I know where you are," she offered, trying to turn Bray around. "Come on I'll look I promise," she urged, "I don't want them to get Bray or Amber or Mouse or anyone else either you're right, we have to try to escape," she said, sounding less frightened and more determined.

"No," he said firmly, "We'll go round together," he paused, "Just give me a second, the pain will go." After a few moments he took off down the new wall, practically dragging Salene, "You noticed anything?"

Salene gave an exasperated sigh in his direction but didn't protest, he wasn't going to listen, she knew better. Salene walked alongside him, shuffling her feet to see if she could feel anything in her general area. "No, not yet," she said, but was soon surprised to feel her foot hit against something soft. "What the," she said, then let go of Bray and fell to her knees, reaching out and touching, feeling, "Bray, it feels like a bed," she offered, two pillows, and the bed felt kind of large, there were sheets on it but no blankets. "It feels like a large mattress, I wonder if there are two though," she stood back up and took Bray's hand, "Do you want to lay down in it for a while? I'll keep checking the area, seeing what I can find?"

"No," he said again, he wasn't going to let his captors beat him, "We know where the bed is, we'll continue looking, it's best we stick togethere, if you found something I'd find it hard to find find you again." Bray walked past the bed, then stopped and waited for Salene to catch up, "Oh wait," realisation dawned on him, "Do you need to sleep? It can't have been an easy sleep for you on the hard floor, and you hurt your head yesterday."

Salene got so excited when he said he found it, she felt the tears of joy rush forward and and she grasped him at the shoulders, giving it a squeeze as he reached up and then said it was't a way out, "What do you mean?" she asked, moving past him, pushing forward and reaching up, "Where is it?" she asked, sure that if she could feel it she'd know she could fit through it. She reached out and moved to the left a little bit and her fingers hit something cool and metal and she felt that excitement leap up again. Then she felt around it and it was no bigger than a brick at it's widest and she frowned, looking confused, and she cried out, "No, no no," and the tears of joy turned bitter, burning down her face as she cried, defeated. She had gotten her hopes up so much, and she'd even tried to be all demanding of Bray that he'd stay here and she'd leave him behind and now...well now it was all for nothing. She turned and slid down the wall they were now against, the last wall of the room, and she'd been up it halfway the other way earlier so ( ... )

Bray felt hear broken, and he felt worse because he felt guilty for letting down Salene. How could he have been so stupid. He slowly lowered himself down ignore the pain, using his hands he found where Salene was, he held her, now was not the time to break down. "now listen to me," he said flinching, "Now's not the time to give up. I've been thinking what if we moved the bed underneath the door, and try to get out that way." He paused trying to gauge how she was reacting in the dark.

He thought he could hear something, but he put it out of his mind, Salene was what was important.

Salene leaned into Bray, silent sobs filling her being, she was so sad, she had let herself get all of her hopes up and for what? For a vent she could probably get her foot into if she was tall enough, her fist, but nothing more. This sucked, she felt so lost, lost for good to rot in this hole with her friend Bray, a person with a family, not like her, she kind of had Pride and Mouse, and everyone else, and they were her home, her heart, and now she was sure she'd never see them again. She felt comforted by Bray but then he suggested pushing the bed under the door, "It's just a mattress on the floor Bray, nothing else, it's not going to get us any closer to that door than the plywood or me standing on your shoulders doing russian gymnastics," she said in half sobs, feeling so stupid. She sniffled and wiped at her nose, "I'm never going to see Pride or Mouse again, we're going to be here forever, he's got us good, we're stuck here at his mercy, don't you see?" She heard him say not to give up but she couldn't help herself, she saw ( ... )

Bray was at first worried, but then Salene was suddenly different, he didn't know what to do. He could hear her moving around in the dark gathering things he presumed. When she spoke it worried him more, she was talking as if she had no emotion, it wasn't healthy.

He answered, "Yeah I'm hungry, thirsty too," he tried to make his way over to where she was, but he went past the bed. He managed to turn around and make his way back, "What vegetables are there?"

Salene listened to every word, laying there still and quiet, thinking, letting him talk, her hand falling from his shoulder as he sat up. "Alright then, get up and scream," she offered, "Bang on the walls, but don't hurt yourself. Scream, let's both scream maybe someone will hear us," she pushed the blanket off of her and sat up, "Come on let's scream and scream until we can't anymore," she sounded urgent, expectant. "Amber will be ok Bray, I don't know why I feel so positive of that, but I do. She's not like me, she's more observant, she would have noticed someone about to conk her over the head," Salene reached up and touched the icky spot, maybe she should clean it with some hydrogen peroixide or something. Oh well, it was unimportant ( ... )

Bray felt her hugging him, it really did feel comforting... but deep down he wished it was Amber with him. He wanted her round, he didn't know how long they'd been here, probably not as long as it felt, but it was enough to make him miss her. "No screaming won't help," he said, it didn't really feel that way, but it wouldn't help situation.

"I think I just want to lie down again," he lied, really he wanted her to go to sleep so he could go round again on his own, but he didn't want to get hopes up again if they did find anything. Despite her reassuring him he decided she was fragile, and he didn't want to hurt her. "We should get some sleep when we can, no point wasting our time when we can't see or do anything."

Salene let him go when he said screaming wouldn't help, she thought at least he was feeling better. She scooted out of the way when he said he wanted to lay down again, it was probably for the best, he did need to rest and heal. Besides, once he was asleep she could go round the room again, all the way, be more thorough and see if she could find anything of importance. If there was one vent, maybe there were two, a bigger one for..another reason? She made a face, however, when he suggested they get some sleep, "I'm not really tired," she half protested but lay down, resting her head on the pillow, thoughts of exploring the room rushing through her head as she lay there, waiting for Bray's breathing to get heavy and even.

Bray waited until he thought she'd settle down. He couldn't tell if she was asleep but she'd not said anything for a while. He slowly, and quietly got up, and walked forward, but away from the bed, he was shuffling carefully so as not to trip over anything, he'd start his search once he found a wall, which having moved the mattress over to the wall wasn't long. He rested up against it for second, the effort of getting up and moving around hurt his side considerably, once he'd recovered he'd start his search.
