It is, apparently, modernized. I'm typically not a fan of that route, but I'll wait until it comes out to pass judgment. They have certainly added a lot more buildup and a lot more comedy. If I remember correctly, the book jumped right into the action right away, and had very little comedy. It was, well, dark and ominous. Another thing, Gregory Smith plays someone named "Max" and I think he's the one in the trailer who says, "I'm coming with you Will." Is this Max Stanton? Will's older brother? He never finds out stuff, Paul is the only one who ever comes close. What's up with him being a big part of the movie, if it is Max Stanton. The token male hottie? The trailer also makes it seem like Will has "powers" but I'm hoping that that's just the producers trying to appeal to an audience that likes that sort of thing. Will doesn't actually have powers in the typical superhero sense, it's more like a deep inner power and old knowledge that enables him to do certain things, but it's not really a set of powers like the x-men or whatnot. All I really hope is that they drop the kiddiness halfway through and show how Will is not a kid and does not act like one. He is an Old One. And even the three Drew children recognized that acted like a grown-up. But anyway, you never can tell how it will be just by the first teaser trailer. Here's hoping that it's good. Good enough for the rest of the books to be filmed, at least.
