I've come to find that with myself, "I'm fine" means nothing is right.

In my experience it can be hard... and perhaps the fact that he does care enough about u not to want to say it and then fail to live up to it, but rather he wants to continue to develop and progress.

Probably doesn't make sense... I never was good with words/ reactions under such circumstances, but good luck w/ it all.
