from a christian point of view, people arent christians because of what God or in any religion because of what some god can do for them.
you didn't die when your dad beat you up that one last time... you have a beautiful baby daughter, albeit not from circumstances you would have chosen, you are currently living with family who, while not always that great, care about you enough to throw you your first birthday party.
you SHOULD decide what you really believe. but the 'genuine' or most real christians i know didn't become a christian because that was what they were 'supposed' to do or because they wanted God to do something for them. they saw God working in their lives.. or rather, wanted Him to... and believed that he is who he says he is in the bible...and allowed that to change who they were, too.
I don't think god works in my life. I don't feel him near me or anything and I never have. He never protected me from my dad. They say God sees everything and watches us. Well why did he just sit there and watch what my dad did to me and not do anything to stop him? Thirteen years I lived with my dad and he did stuff to me since I was a baby. God never tried to help me and I prayed every day for him to help me and he never did.
