So I was talking on MSN with this friend today and we were discussing how Asia is wayy more ahead of us in terms of technology and stuff. Like, apparently there's this prepaid card they use in the transportation system in which you store money in (like a credit card/debit card) and all you do is swipe it at the card reader on buses, taxis, subway stations, and money is deducted right away. This way you won't have to carry loose change with you or anything. And it seems like these cards can even be used at convenience stores too which is pretty convenient considering that you won't even need to bring your wallet out or money whenever you go out haha, Oh and wow even for school attendance too o_o
Now they've had this system in HK ever since 1997, and in Taiwan ever since 2000, and Japan is probably wayy earlier...and it's ONLY gradually spreading to where I'm living this year but this is my first time hearing of such thing o_o Correct me if I'm wrong though, maybe I'm just ignorant and this thing is already in North America already << It's sad how I'm marveling over this while it's probably old technology in Asia already orz (I know there's the mealplan card and subway pass but it doesn't extend beyond university or the subway)
So then my friend sent me this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Octopus_card which is the HK version of the card. but LOL it's called an OCTOPUS card. like, you can reach anywhere with your slimy tentacles And I can imagine some person going like: "Yo dude, lend me your octopus card" Ok well the chinese translation is supposed to mean 8 ways but loll the ridiculous name is just so funny XDD
then we started talking about the ones in Japan, which have pretty weird but somewhat cute names XD Like suica (suika=watermelon), desuca(desuka=isn't it?), iruca (iruka=is there?),kitaca(kitaka=is it here?), hareca(hareka=is it sunny?). Hehe well the "ka" sounds like the short version of "ka-do", which means "card" Oh Japan, that is so you to come up with these crazy names yet oh so cute names XD

This is hilarious XD Oh I love Japanese abbreviations, there's this restaurant in Japan called "First Kitchen" and the abbreviation for that is: "Fakkin" which as we all know sounds like something in English XDD Lmao, I wonder if they realize what they're saying whenever they say something like: 「ね、ファッキンに行こうよ～」which basically translates to: "Hey, let's go (to) effing" *cough*
This is hilarious but omg it's so true XD
