End Goal - Forensics

Nov 16, 2012 13:56

Is there anyone in this community who currently works in forensics? What do you specialize in? Would you be free to answer a few of my questions? I'm currently aiming for a BS in Chemistry and really would like to talk to someone who can help point me in the right direction as far as my education plan goes..

I'm friends with a number of forensic entomologists and can forward your questions if you like. A group of us will be meeting at the pub tomorrow night. :-)

Ohh, that'd be fab!

I'd really like to know if getting a B.S in Chemistry is the best route for me to take - Ideally I'd like to work as in Criminalistics!

I've also heard some people say that a Masters may be required in the future and I have found quite a number of M.S degrees.. Is it worth pursuing a M.S also? I have no issues with extra education, I love learning, but I want to know if it's the right way to go.

That is pretty much it really. Any extra tips about going into the forensic career field would also be appreciated; any classes/internships etc that would be advisable to take to make my resume jump out above the rest :)

Thank you so much!

I have a friend that is doing something similar, but is getting a biology major and chemistry minor. You're really going to need to have a solid biology background in addition to chemistry. You may have the option to take a lot of biology electives with your chem major, it just depends on your school.
